Greenwood wins district openers over Fort Stockton, Monahans

Body – Greenwood overcame a first set loss to beat Fort Stockton 21-25, 25-22, 25-14, 25-18 in the District 3-4A opener last Saturday in Fort Stockton, then returned home to beat Monahans 25-17, 25-19, 2225, 25-22 on Tuesday.

Body – The Greenwood Cros Country teams traveled halfway across Texas to compete at the McNeil Invitational on Saturday at Old Settlers Park in Round Rock. The varsity boys were led by sophomore Ashton Adams with a time of 18:56.1.

Body - It was a spectacular first week of football for Greenwood youth football as the Outlaws swept Monahans and the Rangers went 3-1 against Andrews. For the Outlaws, the Flag team squeaked by the Loboes 20-19 while the Freshmen won easily 34-6.

Rangerettes split Tuesday’s matches

Body – Greenwood traveled to Clyde on Tuesday for a dual meet with Clyde and Holliday. The Rangerettes played a very competitive match with Holliday winning in five sets (24-14, 20-25, 2523, 24-26, 17-15).

Body - High school football practices start Monday for area teams. Garden City, Grady, Stanton, and Greenwood will all take the field for the first time on Monday for a week or practices.
