The Two Tablets

God gave Moses the “Ten Commandments” on two stone tablets.[ Deut. 5] The first four commandments were related to man’s relationship with God. The last six were dealing with man’s relationship to each other. I’ve said before that it is still just as wrong to kill as it always was. It is still just as wrong to use the name of God in vain as it always was. We could go ahead and name all the commandments be- cause God does not change.

Here in this passage we see some unusual things. ”And He wrote them in two tablets of stone” [Deut. 5:22].

You and I are lively stones if we are born again of the spirit of God.[1 Peter 2:3].

Jesus was the stone the Builders rejected. He is the word become flesh. The commandments, sim- ply, are Jesus. In the Old Testa- ment the Commandments were called the Law. Rom. 2:15 says the Law was written on our hearts. Written on the hearts, of us, the lively stones.

God could have given the commandments any way He wanted to, but He chose stones as a symbol. Because He relates to us as stones. Also He used stone because it was a firm stable record. He wants us to be firm and stable in Jesus ”The Word”. We do not get saved by keeping the Law. We keep the law because we are saved. It’s a lifestyle, because the law is writ- ten on our hearts.

Why did God use two stones? He is not limited with size, weight or space. He could have written smaller, used a bigger stone or used ten stones. Why two? Well, in greek, the Number one means unity and two means division or difference. Like in Genesis one, when it talks about dark and light, God divided light from dark, division and different. We are created free to choose.

Each commandment is for our good. Blessings if we do them, Curses if we don’t. The first commandment is; there shall have no other gods before me. Now we can choose to obey or we can choose to divide or separate ourselves from God.

By Jannie Linney from page two Commandment three says not to take the name of God in vain. I have never heard somuchofthatinmylifeasIdo now. Even preachers use that name just like the world does. It breaks my heart. Number seven says Do not commit adultery. Even so called Christians have decided to slap God in the face with rebellion and separate themselves from Him in this area. We could name the separation of choice with every commandment.

Two Stone Tablets, When God gave the Ten Commandments; He gave them for our good and for our protection, but with the freedom of choice. When He wrote them on our heart, there was not two tablets but one hearts that He wrote them on. When we are Born Again, Paul said we do not belong to our- selves any more but we have been bought with a price. We then are to have the mind of Christ and become one with Him. We die to our self and let Christ remove the sin nature. It is a process as we are being perfected.

As long as we keep the sin nature, it will keep on making sin. “You shall walk in all the ways which the Lord your God has commanded you, that you may live, and that it may be well with you, and that you may prolong your days in the land which you shall possess [ Deut. 5:33].

We get life, wellness, live long and Chapter 6:3 says we will prosper. It’s something to think about. How do you choose, Light or darkness. Two stones, or one Heart. Let us choose one heart for God.
