Very Sassy & Mildly Classy

Welp, it’s that time again. HOMECOMING IN TEXAS! We all know this means, MUMS.

Mums at homecoming is a Texas tradition. It’s been said everything is bigger and better in Texas. That’s no Joke ! All of us Texans take being a Texan very seriously. We wear that Texas flag like a badge of honor, proudly. Shoot, we will dang near fight anyone who claims to come from a better state

While being a Texan has millions of perks, there is one thing we do right. Friday Night Lights!! You add the fact that it’s Homecoming in there, and we have all the graduating class of 99-2000’s, showing up to show out on our old stomping grounds.

Do not get me wrong. I’m a lady who can be easily won over with bling, feathers, and lights. I love statement earrings, a custom Spirit Shirt, and matching shoes. But let’s remember there is a fine line between being Classy and Trashy. ( Clearly I’m well versed in both)

While placing a mum order for little Sally Jo lets make sure it’s not going to weigh more than she does. Make sure her face can still be seen at all times. We would hate for Sally Jo to trip over the 400 yards of ribbon causing her to plummet facefirst into the stands knocking out her front teeth out

I love a mum, but make sure you order a mum that compliments the grade your mum recipient is in. DO NOT GET A CHILD a neon light flickering mum, with two to three flowers. These remind me of an open sign on the sketchy bar you wouldn’t want to walk in alone at. I hate to see the little girls’ shirts dang near ripped off their bodies by their mum. It screams Hot Mess Express when the sleeve of their shirt is down around their wrist. Stick with the old single mum with a cow bell for the younger kids.

Let’s give the younger girls something to look forward to. Let’s not go balls to the wall while they are 7 years old.

Let’s not get them all gussied & hussied up with red lipstick and hot pants at 7-year-olds

Let’s let the older girls have this one. They will have their time in what seems like the blink of an eye. So for now, their time to shine is Saturday while cheering on the Youth teams. After all, the older girls are the ones who have given High School their best ( and worse) days. They stayed up late studying for those exams. These are the girls who have carefully chosen their outfits, their dates and their hairdos for their special night. Back in my day, Homecoming wasn’t just another home Game it was the show-up and show out game of the season. The game where (most) girls dream of hearing their name called over the speaker while being walked down the field with the most Influential person(s) in their life. They loved every minute of it. We all did. We were in it together, cheering everyone on.

As the Homecoming game approaches, I hope each and everyone girl on the field or in the stands realizes she is enough. There is no crown needed to prove this. You were enough the Thursday Night before the game and you will be enough the Saturday after.

But baby, if you do end up getting this crown, wear it! WEAR THAT BAD BOY PROUDLY! You have worked hard for it, and you have a class full of peers who love you as a person and what you stand for. You have kids in your corner rooting you on.

Parents remember: Just because her mum is pretty doesn’t always mean her heart is. You want to raise the Daughter with a pretty heart, not just the biggest mum. After a few years those moms that hang on the wall will fall apart. Make sure she is grounded in the things that make her eye-catching like a Texas Mum all year long!!!
