GREENWOOD - The Greenwood Rangers almost let a sure victory slip through their fingers last Friday night against Snyder in Greenwood.
The Rangers started the game like Mike Tyson in the first round, throwing haymakers and trying to knock the Tigers out early.
After the first buzzer, Greenwood was up 25-14 and rolling, but that would be the only quarter the Rangers would win.
Snyder weathered the worst of the storm and outscored Greenwood in the second quarter 14-13 making the score 38-28 at halftime.
Greenwood still led comfortably but Snyder was on a mission and took the third quarter 18-10 to cut the Ranger’s advantage to 48-46.
The final eight minutes was a back and fourth battle with both teams hungry for a victory.
When the final buzzer had sounded, Snyder took the fourth quarter 12-11 but lost the game by a heartbreaking 59-58.
Greenwood was led in scoring by Tatum Pierce with 24 points. Pierce scored 19 of his game-high in the first quarter.
Ty Presley also finished in double figures for the Rangers with 14 points.
Landen Stewart ended the game with eight points while Kevin Prieto and Colton Rauman had four points each.
Ethan Madrid tossed in three points and Landen Butts added two points.
The Ranger’s made 6 three-pointers (Pierce 3, Stewart 2, Madrid 1) and shot 1 of 4 from the foul line (25%).
Snyder went 4 of 5 from the charity stripe (80%) and knocked down 8 threepointers.
The win improves Greenwood’s record to 9-6 on the season.
