If you are having a hard time getting into the spirit of Christmas, I recommend finding some baby goats and sitting down and watching them for a short spell…….
Easy to be overwhelmed by all the earthly phenomenon, we have never been able to change it, but we can be sure to enjoy the Christmas Season with family and friends while we celebrate the birth of Christ. Big Smiles, Hugs, Kisses, and Hand Shakes are the only presents you need to pack. We never went on a sleigh ride in West Texas, but a big fire outside and a few stories with a big pot of coffee laced with a touch of spirit sure made my Christmas come alive.
I can remember lots of Christmas’s, grandma’s house…….. big Christmas trees and my new JC Higgins bike, lots of clothes. I finally got old enough for a 22 single shot rifle and a box of shells. Lots of hunting stories after that little purchase. Another memory of Christmas was our Christmas in Viet Nam. Mother had sent me a little Christmas Tree and all the decorations she could send. It was little dry when it got there, but it was a real live Christmas Tree. In the decorations was a little pan of Jiffy Pop Popcorn. I had never seen Jiffy Pop before and we weren’t sure how to make it work. We were in the middle of the monsoon in a remote camp, but we had a GP tent that was the company HQ. So we loaded our Christmas up and moved to the GP tent. This wasn’t a very secure area, tents don’t repel shrapnel and bullets, but they had ordered a Christmas truce, no fire missions or patrols for Christmas day. I didn’t know who “They” was but I thought it would be nice if “They” would call every day Christmas and we could all go home. But we managed to find enough heat tabs to cook the popcorn and decorate our Christmas tree. I think Mother wanted us to use the popcorn to decorate the tree, but we were too busy snacking on the popcorn while we decorated the tree with the uneatable decorations. Jiffy Pop Popcorn sure outdoes C rations. It was a good Christmas even though we were miles from our homes, as we had a good outfit and our battery members became our family, so our home became where our battery was stationed. We were fortunate as we all made the best of what was offered by sticking together as a family should in the Spirit of Christmas . Well I have some more Christmas Stories ,but I had better go, Anne just called and she is coming home from a trip to San Antonio with Mary Coots and I don’t want to miss any of their stories about San Antonio ……….
Merry Merry Christmas Mike
