Jesse Chisholm and James R. Mead started the Chisholm trail just about the time of the civil war. Actually it was started as a freight trail and not a cattle trail. Chisholm was a result of the American Culture. His father was of Scottish decent and his mother a Cherokee Indian. Not sure of Jesse’s birth date, but somewhere around 1805 or 1806 in Tennessee.
