– A winner was finally declared following a sideline clearing brawl between Hirschi and Graham last Friday night. It all started when a screenshot circulated on social media from an account claiming to be a Graham fan making racial statements. Tensions were high from the start of the game, with 22 combined penalties. Nine of the penalties were personal fouls.
The fight broke out in the last 23 seconds of the third quarter, with Hirschi leading 24-14.
After the sideline clearing fight, 14 Hirschi players and 12 Graham players were ejected from the game.
Originally all 26 of those students were being considered for suspension, before TASO changed it to 11, 6 from Graham and 5 from Hirschi.
The District 3-4A Division II District Executive Committee officially met on Wednesday and awarded Hirschi the win.
The suspended players will not play for a minimum of one-half of each team’s next game. For Graham, that is at Snyder on Friday. Hirschi also plays Snyder next, but in two weeks at Memorial Stadium.
Now, Hirschi’s official win over Graham is under review, pending an investigation into whether Hirschi used an ineligible player at Friday’s game.
According to UIL rules Section 27 (c)(3), in the event an ineligible contestant is used in any UIL game or contest, knowingly or unknowingly, the minimum penalty shall be forfeiture of the game, contest or event.
