GREENWOOD - There were no questions to who the better team as on Monday when Greenwood’s eighth grade girls A team took on Pecos.
After the first quarter, Greenwood held a small 14-8 lead but by halftime it had ballooned to 31-12.
Greenwood continued its hot shooting to start the second half putting another 21 points on the scoreboard and stretching the lead to 52-14.
The Rangerettes slowed the pace in the final frame for a 65-15 victory.
Tracy Richards was outstanding for Greenwood finishing with a game high 23 points.
Bella Rivas also had a great performance putting up 17 points.
Sophia Cooley ended with nine points followed by Hannah Zarate with six points, Kalea Villa with six points, Briley Gardenhire with two points, and Teagan Burkham with two points.
“We started off a little slow but got it going in the second quarter,” said Greenwood’s coach. “We wanted to focus on executing our offense and playing good defense.”
Cooley made Greenwood’s lone threepointer and the team shot 2 of 14 (14%) from the foul line.
Pecos was 1 of 4 (25%) shooting free throws.
Greenwood is 3-3 finishing up the first round of district with losses from Snyder (non-district), Andrews and Seminole.
