Rangerettes open district play with win

- The Greenwood Rangerettes are playing some of their best basketball at the right time.

Last Tuesday, Greenwood took on a talented Snyder team.

The Lady Tigers jumped out to an early 14-5 lead before Greenwood whittled that advantage to 23-21 by halftime.

The Rangerettes took the lead in the third quarter and clung tight to that lead the rest of the game for a 40-37 victory.

Adison Savage led Greenwood in scoring with 13 points and Aly Jackson added 10 points.

Kodi Hartman tossed in seven points followed by Caili McDonald with four, Avree Turnage three, and Azaria Jameson three.

Other stat leaders had McDonald with five rebounds, Turnage with three assists, Hartman with three steals, and Jackson with one block.

Then on Friday, Jackson scored a game-high 14 points and Grace Gardenhire added 13 to lead Greenwood to a rout of Fort Stockton during the District 3-4A opener at Greenwood High School.

Greenwood took a commanding 33-7 halftime lead and cruised in the second half to a 52-16 victory.

McDonald scored eight points for the Rangerettes (11-15, 1-0), while Hartman added six.

Savage, Jameson, and Turnage rounded out the scoring with five, four, and two points respectively.

McDonald recorded the most rebounds with six while Hartman led the way with two assists and four steals.
