- The Midland County Commissioners’ Court held a special meeting on Wednesday where four of the five commissioners approved a motion to purchase the Parsley building located on East County Road 120 and Farm-to-Market Road 715.
The approval to purchase the new sheriff’s administration building comes at a cost of $15.5 million. This amount does not include the cost of renovations and it appears that several logistical issues exist from documents provided by the Department of Public Works.
Precinct 1 Commissioner Scott Ramsey expressed his displeasure with the purchase and questioned the choice of location for the sheriff’s office.
Also, the sheriff’s building doesn’t appear to be attached to the land where a new jail complex could be built. That land is located at County Road 1140 and County Road 110.
At this time the total cost for sheriff’s office project has a bunch of moving parts that have not been voted on. There are some items listed on documents that may not need to be completed. As the project continues, commissioners will make decisions pertaining to the renovations and a more finite number can be derived.
