– The Greenwood Ranger’s junior high basketball teams were in action the past couple weeks and put together some good performances.
The eighth grade boys ‘White’ team beat up on Andrews and Monahans.
Against Monahans, Greenwood opened the game with a 7-0 run. The Rangers only allowed a single field goal the first half, but the Loboes sank seven free throws giving Greenwood a 15-9 halftime lead.
The second half was highly contested. Greenwood did outscore Monahans by three points securing a 35-26 victory.
Tripp Legendre led Greenwood in scoring with 14 points and Tillman Klessner added seven points.
Stetson Gonzales ended the game with four points while Landry Latham, Eric Aranda, and Parker Peery chipped in with three points each. Ivan Swopes rounded out the scoring with one point.
Against Andrews, Greenwood was awesome in the first and third quarters racking up 34 points and struggled with cold shooting in the second and fourth scoring just six points.
The Ranger’s lead was so big that the final few minutes were not enough for Andrews to rally giving Greenwood the 40-32 victory.
Legendre was high point with 13 and Latham tossed in another 12 points.
Hunter Outlaw and Stetson Gonzalez scored eight and seven points respectively.
The last two games for the eighth grade blue team were massive wins.
Greenwood opened the game against Monahans with a 14-4 run, and by halftime had a 24-14 advantage.
The Ranger’s offense exploded in the second half and the defense locked down earning Greenwood a 62-34 blowout victory.
Torres and Larsen led Greenwood in scoring with 12 points each and Mendoza added eight points.
Booker, Thorn, and Wilhelm finished with six points each while Medlin and Guajardo pitched in with four points each.
Rybolt and Watzl had two points apiece.
Greenwood next took on Andrews. It wasn’t much of a challenge for the talented Rangers as Greenwood had a 32-17 advantage at halftime and cruised to a 62-32 victory.
Mendoza, Torres, and Thorn all finished in double digits scoring 19, 14, and 12 points respectively.
Watzl tossed in six points followed by Rybolt with five, Larsen three, and Wilhelm two.
