– The Greenwood Rangers are off to a good start in the District race with a Homecoming win over Snyder Friday night at J.M. King Stadium in Greenwood. All the professional pickers had Greenwood thumping Snyder. But the Tigers ignored all the naysayers and took their first possession the length of the field for a touchdown and quick seven-point lead. Later in the first quarter, Greenwood standout receiver Rance Purser took a Dylan Dominguez pass 70 yards for the Rangers first touchdown. The kick was no good allowing Snyder to cling tight to a 7-6 lead. Early in the second quarter, Greenwood would take its first lead of the game on a one-yard touchdown run. The two-point conversion failed.
A few minutes later on Greenwood’s next possession, the drive stalled in the red zone prompting coach Rusty Purser to send out the field goal team. Rance split the uprights bumping the Ranger’s lead to 15-7.
Snyder would answer with its second touchdown of the game and hoped to tie the game at 15, but a failed two-point conversion kept Greenwood ahead 15-13.
Greenwood’s defense would pick the rest of the game not allowing another point while the Ranger’s offense scored 20 straight points to win homecoming 35-13.
Greenwood finished with 455 yards of total offense, 120 passing and 335 rushing.
Dominguez led the offense throwing 3 of 4 for 120 yards and one touchdown.
His passes were caught by Purser for 111 yards and Jaaz Dominguez for nine yards.
Aaron Fikes was the Ragner’s top rushers with 21 carries for 177 yards and one touchdown. Tylan Booker rushed 12 times for 93 yards and Dominguez added 65 yards and three touchdowns on 14 attempts.
Next on the schedule is a road game against Sweetwater. Kick-off is set for 7 p.m.
