- Early Thursday morning around 1 a.m., Stanton Police Department Officers located an occupied, stolen vehicle at the Super 8 Motel in Stanton.
The driver of the vehicle, Brian Tyler Lopez 21 of Stanton, fled the scene in reverse heading east on the I-20 service road.
Lopez would eventually whip his vehicle around and take the on-ramp heading to Big Spring.
By this time Martin County Sheriff’s Office Deputies had joined the pursuit.
During the chase, Lopez intentionally swerved and struck a deputy’s vehicle before fleeing at over 100 mph in the rain.
Lopez lost control of his vehicle and ran into the center median striking the cable barrier system.
One of the metal pylons ripped through the floorboard of the car causing debris to lacerate Lopez’s upper thigh.
After a quick trip to the hospital, Lopez was booked into the Dan Saunder’s law Enforcement Center.
He was charged with Evading Arrest/Detention with a Vehicle, Unauthorized Use of a Motor Vehicle, and Aggravated Assault Against a Public Servant.
Lopez had a Midland County warrant (CR56245) for Theft of Property Greater Than $30,000 Less Than $150,000. He also had a warrant out of Tom Green County (#2200878L2) for Reckless Driving. Following arraignment his bonds totaled $56,500.
