Firefighters battle flames from a burning semi-truck pulling a tanker trailer on FM 1379 near East County Road 120 on Tuesday, March 10. The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department and Midland Fire Department responded. No injuries were reported.
Man arrested after police chase in Midland County
Teachers and staff put their best chili and cornbread recipes to the test during Greenwood Elementary’s annual Texas Day cook-off. GISD Deputy Superintendent Debra Keel and Brooks Middle School Principal Brian Ellington sample some of the entries. Chili winners were Sallie Thompson (1st), Bailey Bruyere (2nd) and Mary Alvarado (3rd). Cornbread winners were Julia Borrego (1st), Chrissy Reed (2nd) and Tiffany Moore (3rd).

The GISD engineering drone team gave a live demonstration of its drone soccer competition at the Region 18 Career and Technical Education quarterly meeting. Region 18 officials said the students’ “knowledge, motivation and passion for engineering and drone technology is truly inspiring.”
A water tower was installed this week at the Midland County Utility District’s new water treatment facility next to the new Midland County jail in Greenwood on SCR 1140. The tower holds 100,000 gallons of water. The facility also includes two 2-million-gallon tanks that the Greenwood Ranger featured in last week’s edition. MCUD will provide water to the new jail and the new Greenwood ISD elementary and intermediate schools expected to open in August.
GHS students Abigail Brooks and Keyen Morgan will represent Greenwood at the National Speech & Debate Tournament this summer in Richmond, Virginia.
The staff of the Greenwood Ranger extends its heartfelt condolences to the family, friends, classmates, teachers and coaches of Greenwood High School student Tristan Wilson. Tristan was a beloved student and athlete who inspired many during his courageous fight against cancer.
