Autopsy report is back on Stanton student

- The community of Stanton was stirred into a frenzy in late January 2023 following the shooting death of a Stanton High School senior.

Martin County Justice of the Peace Jarrell Hedrick authorized an autopsy for the 17 y/o Hispanic male.

Thomas Parsons with South Plains Forensic Pathology in Lubbock performed the autopsy on Jan. 23 at 8:30 a.m.

His findings were four close range and/or contact range gun shot wounds to the area of the left pectoral chest.

Parsons lists the cause of death as “gunshot wounds of the chest.”

The medical examiner did not list any findings that would categorize the event as suicide or homicide.

That determination will be left up to the findings of the Stanton Police Department, which is still conducting a thorough investigation.

Due to the ongoing investigation, no comment was sought from the investigating officers.
