The notoriously dangerous Five Points intersection has long been a safety concern for Greenwood-area drivers. Federal funding secured for the project will allow Midland County to begin planning and engineering work on long-awaited improvements, though construction is still several years away.

The Greenwood Volunteer Fire Department served hundreds of people during its annual Fourth of July pancake breakfast, a tradition held each year to thank the community for its support. Children climbed aboard the fire trucks, leaving behind a few sticky syrup fingerprints, before firefighters responded to 24 fire calls from July 4 into the early hours of Sunday.
