GREENWOOD - Martin County Hospital District and Family Clinic of Stanton, is pleased to announce that it will soon be offering services to students of Greenwood ISD at the school campuses.
Students who are sick or become ill during the school day will now have the opportunity to see a provider while remaining on campus. The school based clinic program is part of the Hospital District’s outreach program and will be a partnership between Martin County Family Clinic and Greenwood ISD. The hospital district has now collaborated with four school districts in the surrounding area.
“It is recognized that school aged children often experience barriers to medical care and services. Barriers include limited after hour access to their primary care providers, inability for parents to leave work to take children to office visits and transportation issues – our goal is to help parents and school districts remove some of these barriers so that care can be provided timely and efficiently,” states Becky Brandon, Director of the Martin County Family Clinic.
Students will have the ability to see a provider the same day they become sick providing for less “out of school” time and early identification of illness. Providers from the clinic are able to perform exams by using state of the art telemedicine equipment facilitated by the school nurse on campus. Testing at the campus is provided to facilitate early detection of illness such as Flu A&B, Strep, and COVID-19.
“We are excited to be able to bring this service to the students and parents of Greenwood ISD. Having been a working mother, I know how difficult it can be to drop things at work and respond when your child becomes ill. It would have been a comfort to know my child was being seen by medical professionals and a treatment plan developed prior to my arriving at school,” states Nancy Cooke, CEO at Martin County Hospital District.
The program will offer other services to the school district to promote wellness and prevention. Vaccine clinics held at the school will provide convenience for parents and help students stay current
